SNP CANDIDATE RESPONDS TO COLLAPSE OF STEWART MILNE GROUP

08/01/24

Glen Reynolds, SNP parliamentary candidate for West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine, was shocked to learn of today’s news about the appointment of administrators to local firm, Stewart Milne Group (SMG).

Glen comments:

“The door to Administrators needs to be kept open, as is mine, to act as a mediator between any interested parties and Teneo Financial Advisory, who have been appointed joint administrators for SMG and six of its subsidiaries.

“Whilst the downturn in the construction sector is not new, with supply chain and planning obstacles hindering progress, it is vital that key housing projects are maintained and not left up in the air, with hundreds of jobs axed and many more at risk.

“What this devastating scenario needs is stability in the short term whilst measures can be taken to save what can be saved, including jobs and investment when housing is so crucial to economic growth and development in the north east.

“Andrew Bowie MP and other parliamentarians must also play a key role in doing all that a parliamentarian should be doing at this time. His silence is palpable. Momentum mustn’t be lost. I feel deep sorrow for Stewart Milne and his family at this time when his life and investment have played such a key role in providing jobs and housing for people and families in West Aberdeenshire & Kincardine and the northeast of Scotland.

I am keen to do all that is necessary to engage with urgent round the table face to face discussions to find a way to make progress for the business and the people whose livelihood depends on it. As Mr. Milne has stated, he believes one of the bids could have delivered a comparable, financial return to administration and, crucially, allowed the business to continue to operate, safeguarding hundreds of jobs and protecting livelihoods.

“In that context, I ask that the administrators call an urgent meeting for all stakeholders to attend, including myself, and that no options are left off the table to secure the suture of projects that await spades in the ground.”
